Ballroom Dance Smooth Technique – Asheville, NC – Three for Thursday
You know how an idea starts with a small kernel then begins to take root and soon a flower is possible. Well, that’s how The Triad started. Paul invited Ruthy and I to take dance lessons twice a month from Ted and Kimberly Ross, to focus on form and technique of ballroom smooth dances i.e. Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Quick Step, and Viennese Waltz. Great idea! What is morphing out of it is none other than amazing!
The morph has evolved to us writing about our experiences for one year, the commitment of The Triad, to then put it all together into a book. So, to share the wealth of our learning and experience of building a sense of real community through dance, we will be blogging our journals right here on Boom A Boom Blog. Therefore, you can participate, ask questions, even make suggestions, or just have a laugh or two.
The Triad, also called, Three for Thursday – that’s the evening we take the lessons, is an opportunity for two people to dance and the third to witness and comment to assist in recreating what Ted and Kimberly where actually demonstrating. We practice our lessons faithfully with one watching and the others dancing. Now, Paul, bless his soul, gets to dance all the time. But, what I have noticed is that I am learning to observe with more intricacy and wisdom. This directly translates to what my body can then do. To have someone watching what we are doing has a multitude of benefits. First, how often do you say to your dance instructor, “I did that?” We are often not aware of what all our body parts are doing, especially during practice. The Triad facilitates quicker correct muscle memory, as we can readjust a foot placement, a shoulder, or hip position before it becomes one of those bad habits we then need to break later.
So, join in on the fun, the learning, and the love.
